April 2009

Today marks President Obama’s 100th day in office.  I don’t know why there is so much hype over the first 100 days, but I’m glad he is the one doing the job!  Could he be any cooler?

I love it at 0:32 (“Not you!”)  Lol!

Also, I have some cute pictures of Amber’s baby girl, Miss Tuesday (yes Amber, I’m jacking pictures from your blog)  She’s just too cute to pass up!!

Crabs to eat, that is!  On Friday, we went over to the Lloyds for dinner, and earlier that evening, Julie sent Kwame to Costco.  Turns out, that’s not always a good thing because he came home with a bunch of stuff (which, frankly, doesn’t that happen to all of us? You go to Costco to pick up 2 things and you come out with a whole basket full of stuff you really didn’t need to buy…).  But I have to say that in this case, I think we were all quite pleased with what he came home with: Crab legs, bacon wrapped scallops, shrimp, salad.  YUM!!!!  Julie, you make a mean crab leg! We all sat around the kitchen and went to work!

After we stuffed ourselves, we hung out to play with the kids

Kijana showed me his new flip flops

But my favorite look of the day was Jada’s hair. Wild child!!! Love it!

We had so much fun! Saturday, the weather was in the 80s.  It was beautiful out!  I sang the anthem at the women’s lacrosse game, then did a little shopping.  I was in desperate need for new shorts for the summer, and after trying on 15 pair, I finally found some that fit.  It makes me nuts that clothing companies make clothes that are huge in the waist, then small in the leg.  Who is built like that?!  Let’s make clothes that fit a woman’s figure, shall we?  Smaller in the waist, a little bigger in the hips, then not teeny-tiny in the thigh—I mean, give a girl some room!  Ugh.  Later that night, Grant and I went down to Church Street to walk around, got some ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s and did a little people-watching and some more walking.  It was a wonderful night because there were still a lot of people out and it was still warm. We got there around 9 pm and it was still in the mid 70s.  Yesterday, the weather was cloudy and kind of yucky so we stayed in and watched tv and napped.  My favorite kind of Sunday activities!

I haven’t posted anything new in the last few days because there really hasn’t been much to blog about….I’ve been very busy at work and have just been coming home in the evenings, going for  the usual pain-in-the-butt run on the treadmill, eating dinner, watching tv and going to bed!  I know, not terribly exciting.  But things are looking up!  70* weather today followed by 80s tomorrow!!!!  FINALLY!!!  I’ll be singing tomorrow at the women’s lacrosse game, but other than that, Grant and I don’t have plans.  A BBQ? Bike ride? Shopping on Church Street followed by cocktails???  The possibilities are endless!

So only a couple things got accomplished this weekend due to the fact that I was somewhat “out of commission.”  I think I may have eaten something that really upset my stomach because I was in the bathroom (what seemed like) most of the weekend.  I did get to sleep in, which was what I really wanted to get accomplished, so that got checked off my list.  Unfortunately, I had to miss bowling.  I still haven’t talked to Julie to see how it went, but hopefully she had a good time (sorry I had to bail on you, Julie!!!)  By the evening, I was feeling better, so we went to Ryan’s birthday party.  A nice, low-key gathering.  But that later that night, I wasn’t feeling well again, and was kind of glad we left when we did because as soon as we got home, I was sick again.  Not my way of spending a Saturday night!  By Sunday, I was feeling better, but was still weary of what to eat.  By the afternoon, I felt back to normal and Grant and I went to the mall to do a little shopping.  Grant got almost a whole new wardrobe because most of his other clothes haven’t been fitting him since he keeps losing weight…I tell him he better stop because people are going to think I quit feeding him!  I got a couple things for myself and we called it a day. All in all, that was my weekend.  Not the best one ever, but I was able to do a couple things.  Oh well. There’s another one coming up in 5 days. That one will be better!

TGIF!!!  I’m so glad it’s Friday and the weekend is right around the corner.  Last weekend was consumed with singing and church, so this weekend is going to include SLEEPING IN.  I can’t tell you how excited I am to be able to sleep until whenever I feel like it (which will probably be till 8:30 or 9).  Tonight is chinese food and tv. Tomorrow is sleeping in, working out, bowling, and a party.  The athletic department is having a bowling fund raiser, and Grant and I were going to go with the Lloyds, but it turns out Grant needs to work with the soccer team tomorrow and Kwame is out of town for work.  So I’ll be bowling with Julie and her kids, and a couple others I know who work in athletics.  I won’t know a lot of people there, which can make me feel a little out of my element.  I’m sure it will be fun, even though I suck at bowling. Lol.  Then Grant and I are going to a birthday party for Ryan, who goes to our church.  Sunday will be total relaxation!!  The weather is supposed to be decent all weekend, so maybe I’ll be able to sneak in a bike ride if it’s not too cold.

What are you doing this weekend?

The only funny thing about this video is Simon at 4:04

Otherwise, this is inspirational and amazing and I hope she wins!!

Britain’s Got Talent

Please excuse me while I just gush a little…aren’t my niece and nephew just too cute?!  Zavion and Avalee, how I miss thee!

My brother, Colin, and Avalee

Ok, now I’m done gushing…thank you.

This weekend was kind of a crazy one. Our church choir put on a concert of Handel’s Messiah, which is a great piece of music, and I took part in it.  We had a dress rehearsal Friday night from 7-9 (not exactly my idea of a great Friday night), then another rehearsal at 9-11 the next morning. I was able to go home and take a nap before I had to be at campus at 2:45 to sing the national anthem for the women’s lacrosse game.  Grant and I stayed for the first half to watch and talk to Allison, who was working the game. Then we went home, Grant was the best and made dinner (fried catfish! yum!) before I had to go to church for our first performance of Messiah.  In addition to Grant coming, of course, Allison and the Lloyds came.  After what I thought was a pretty good performance, Grant and I went over to have dessert with the Lloyds.  Just what I needed! Ice cream for my tired vocal chords!!  While we were at their house, I had to snap a picture of Jada and her awesomely curly hair!

Then on Sunday, Grant and I went to the Easter service in the morning at church. We came home and started cooking because the Lloyds were coming over for dinner around 2:00.  We all ended up eating shrimp, artichokes, bbq chicken and salmon, deviled eggs, strawberry and spinach salad, and Grant made his mom’s dressing.  We basically pigged out for a couple of hours before I had to go back to church for the 6pm performance.  I honestly didn’t feel like going because I was in a bit of a food fog, but I think that performance was better than the night before.  Maybe it was because of singing the Hallelujah Chorus on Easter Sunday…it was pretty powerful.

So basically I sang all weekend.  It was exhausting! Especially since I didn’t get to sleep in at all…and for those of you who know me know that I like to sleep.  There is nothing like sleeping in on a Saturday, getting a good work out in and having my big cup of coffee while reading the newspaper.  Then I’m ready for whatever comes next. I love it!  But the good thing is, Lord willing, I will be able to do all of those things next weekend!

Kids = cute.

Kids dancing? = can be pretty cute and  funny.

This red-headed kid’s moves?! = HILARIOUS!

Over the fall/winter months, you’ve seen me post about the weather here in Vermont.  From the beautiful leaves changing to the freezing cold and snow.  We are slowly finding our way to spring, and here is proof!

My tulips are starting to come up around our light post!  A big ‘thank you’ to the previous owners of our house who planted these.  It’s so nice to see them come up year after year without having to do anything!  I’ll take another picture of them once they bloom.  I’m making a promise to myself–I am going to plant flowers in front of our house!!!  Big, pretty flowers! I know, Grant, I keep saying I’m going to do this, but this year, for real, I am!  I planted a few tulips right after we moved in and a few bulbs this past fall, but other than that I haven’t done any planting.  This year, IT WILL HAPPEN!
