November 2008

For hilarious hump day, I’ve decided to pick a Thanksgiving-themed video.  Those of you who know me, know that I CANNOT stand turkeys.  I think they are the ugliest, most disgusting looking and sounding creatures on this planet and they gross me out with their gobbling noises and hanging skin off their neck and face.  UGH!!! I’m getting grossed out just thinking about them right now. Yuck.  Yes, I eat turkey meat. I actually buy ground turkey instead of ground beef.  And I’m glad we kill them for this American holiday because they are nasty to look at (and tastey)!  So, yes, it was hard for me to pick this video because I had to actually try to watch it…turkeys and all.  Ugh, yuck. The funny part of this is that Sarah Palin (this will be the only time she appears on my blog, I promise!!) pardons a turkey, but has no clue there is a guy in the background killing one. It’s not that graphic because the folks at msnbc blurred out the dead turkey…another funny eliment!  Ha ha!  Take that, ugly, gross, bird!!!

Happy turkey eating!!

We got a little bit of snow this weekend. Right now as I post, it’s raining and all of the snow has melted away. Here is a picture of what our pre-raked yard looked like in October. Remember?

And here it is with the snow from Saturday:

Pretty! Compared to what we got last December…

Ya, Yikes!! Do you see how high the pile is with the lamppost? And they had to tunnel out the sidewalk. Ya, totally not looking forward to this this winter.

I love Wednesdays for one reason…the next day is Thursday! My favorite day of the week!  Why? It’s the best tv day, of course.  ER, Grey’s Anatomy, and The Office all on one night!  And I know I posted an Office video a few weeks ago, but you just can’t deny the hilarity of the show!

Now, TELL me that ain’t hilarious!!

Today I woke up to a slight dusting of snow on the ground, not really much to make note of.  Now it’s lunch time and it’s still coming down and the ground is covered.  I was going to take a picture of it, but low and behold! My batteries are dead in the camera!! Ugh.

This is the kind of snow that is nice.  It’s not too cold out and things are turning white.  I’ll let you know how I feel come January…

Don’t think that I’m a mean person thinking this is one of the funniest videos I’ve seen on youtube.  This kid is trying to tell his dad his little brother has, what he thinks is blood, on the side of his mouth. It’s actually juice. The first time I saw it, I thought it was kinda funny. Then I watched it again and again, and each time, I was cracking up even more.  Do you think it’s funny or mean?  Please comment. Happy Wednesday!

It seems almost everyone I know has recently had or is having a baby…Julie, Trish, my sister in law, Peggy, Amber, and Amy–the last 3 all still expecting.  And there are 4 women in my department that are pregnant!! Geez, something must be in the water! Grant and I met Amy and her husband, Ryan, at the church we go to.  Our church threw her a baby shower last night! Oh, and the pastor’s wife is expecting, too!

Those were our gifts to them. The onsie on the left says “New in Town.” Too cute! The other is a soft, fleecy, outfit with bunnies on it.  She got lots of great stuff. And she knew when I walked over with my camera that I was guna ask for a picture to put on my blog. She goes, “uh oh, I know where this is going!” ha ha! And yes, Amy, I’m using the full body shot so everyone can see your lovely belly!

Their baby girl is due to arrive early January, but let’s keep our fingers crossed for them that she comes just before the new year so they get that tax break!! Babies, babies, everywhere!

And no, there aren’t any babies coming yet in the Wilson house, so don’t ask.

Ok, so I missed hilarious hump day. And with good reason! I had to post about the election! I’m still on cloud 9 and don’t think I’ll ever come down. But I have to post something funny for the week 🙂

David Letterman: “I think I speak for most Americans when I say, anybody mind if Obama starts a little early? Would that be a problem?”

Kelly Kapur: “Dwight, get out of my nook!” Pam, “That’s what she said, that’s what she said!!!”

I was going to post a video too, but it’s not working. Arg. Maybe in a little bit I can load something up. Happy Friday!

Last night was the most amazing night. I’m still processing the fact that a biracial American has won the presidency.  One of my people; someone who looks like me.  Seeing him walk out on the stage with his family was such a proud moment.  Oddly enough, I thought of The Cosby Show. I thought of how many people had one of two views: “it is great having a show on tv that showcases a successful, wholesome black family”, or “that is such an unrealistic portrayal, no black family is like that.”  My thought was always the first; thinking how cool it was to see a black family on tv.  And now here is another–the first family, walking onto the stage, waving to thousands in the crowd in Chicago and to the people watching on tv.  The Huxtable family was fictional.  But this is real.   I heard on the news today about an African American man who says that now he can honestly and proudly tell his children that “yes, you really can grow up to be anything.”  I not only support President Obama with what he has done to break down racial barriers in this country, but I truly believe that he will change this country.  He will lead us to become a better country. I’m so excited for what is to come!

Yes we can!

Before you read this post, you need to get off your booty and go to the polls and vote. Then you can come back and read this, but only after you’ve voted. The polls say Obama is projected to win, but I still get nervous thinking about the election.  How could he not win? I can’t see this country with McCain as president.  I can’t. Don’t let it happen, people!!  Obama in ’08!!

On a much lighter note, our new curtains were delivered yesterday! Ordered from Bed, Bath, and Beyond baby!  The only thing I don’t like about them is that they have to be short because of the heater being right in front of the window. When I went to the store to pick them out, I asked the sales lady if it really mattered that they hung in front of the heater? She was like, “uh, ya, you could burn your house down.”  Ok then. I love the look of them otherwise. What do you think?

Ok, one more time: Get out and vote today!!  Obama in ’08!

On Friday, I was all ready to hand out candy to my neighborhood trick-or-treaters. 6 o’clock came and went and I finally had my first one just after 7.  Then, by 7:30, after about 10 of them showed up, they dwindled down and I was ready to go out.  So I turned off the lights, enjoyed some candy myself, then went over to Julie and Kwame’s house to hang out and see Kijana in his costume.

Cutest monkey ever? I think so!  Jada was dressed as a bunny, but that was before I came over. When I got there, she was just her regular, adorable self!

Why isn’t Julie in any of the pictures I put on my blog? Well, it’s because whenever I whip out the camera, she turns her head.  Ever since I got her laughing and making a funny face and posted it, she’s refused a head-shot. Oh well.

I was going to go over to Allison’s house, but I had a couple glasses of wine with Julie and didn’t want to drive out to Colchester, so I figured I would stay closer to my side of town.

I can’t believe it’s November already. I am so nervous for the election tomorrow, whenever I think about it, I get butterflies in my stomach.  Obama needs to win this one.  Our future depends on it!  So get out there tomorrow and VOTE.  And vote for Obama!
